Commission Problem Solving: CommunicationA few months back, I asked artists and commissioners what their main or common complaints were in regard to the other group. The top complaint I got from both sides was the lack of effective communication. This is completely understandable, and I've seen this happen time and time again. The second top complaint from commissioners is about completion time - the time it takes Artists to finish commissions. Some commissioners said it took 2-4 years to get a completed work. I'm going to give a little comparison here that will hopefully shock artists that take that long: Michelangelo painted the majority of the Sistine Chapel in 4 years. Let that sink in. Having a waiting list for 4 years is a different story, mind you.Commission Problem Solving: Communication by JakkalWolf
This segment is mostly directed to the Artists. I'll have more information for the commissioners below.
I feel like this problem stems from a lot of Artists not taking their business seriously enough. This feeling comes from my own persona
Guide for Artists and CommissionersEvery now and then I see some general complaints from Artists and Commissioners both. I thought I’d take some of these common issues and complaints and make a write up for it. Feel free to add any comments that you’d like, or any issues.Guide for Artists and Commissioners by JakkalWolf
I feel like sometimes there’s a miscommunication between what commissioners expect and how artists work. The fault is on both ends. I’m hoping that with this writeup, I can help artists and commissioners communicate better and understand things from both sides a little better.
This was done kinda hastily in notepad, so revisions/edits may be forthcoming (Especially if people bring up new points that should be added).
Thanks to Nobody for giving some input.
1. Know your limitations. This is not just about your skill, but also about your time. This also means that if you are the type of person to put things off, commission work m
Artist, wannabe-writer, creator of The Realm of Kaerwyn and Black Tapestries. Currently administrator of Kaerwyn's public RP. I also run a store in Second Life known as The WereHouse that makes animal and anthro avatars.
I don't write Kaerwyn by myself. Each character is controlled by their own player (Since all of them are actual characters in Kaerwyn's RP) So a little shoutout:
Renard is played by Oshay. (He doesn't really have a dA account)
Niixa is played by NeekIiroz
Tunc is played by seasonofclarity
Callie is played by LastHowl
All the other characters are mine.
And many thanks to Blackcanines, Arrow-Quivershaft, seasonofclarity, and pythos-cheetah for giving me a subscription account! It's greatly appreciated!
